Do Better Feel Better

As of recently I've wanted to change it up a bit. First off I wanted to change my diet. I also want to become a little more conscience of what I use and how it ends up after I use it. Also buying local is a pretty amazing idea that I've wanted to work with. And by local I really mean things made in the USA as of right now (being I'm located in S.Korea). So here are some tid bits I've been doing to make the change.

I've always needed to consume more nutritious foods, and I've always had a strong dislike for vegetables. Well JUICING! It helps me with both my veggie and fruit in take. For some reason it's like a million times easier for me to juice something together than to figure out how to use it in a dish. It pretty fun to see a whole pineapple turn into nothing but juice. What isn't fun is juicing things like beets and you getting splatters of it all over your wall. I guess this all depends on your juicer though.
Some of my favorite juices include:

  • 2 Apples
  • 1 Cucumber
  • Handful of Spinach
  • Juice of half a Lime
or

  • 1 Whole Pineapple
  • 1 Whole Cucumber
  • Handful of Spinach
at last but not least

  • Half a Watermelon
  • 1 Beet (which are freaking hard to come by here in Korea)
  • Juice from half a Lime

Whole pineapple, whole cucumber, inch of ginger, and a handful of spinach.

My husband and I signed up for a subscription box called VeganCuts ! It costs 19.95 a month and they send you a box filled with yummy vegan snacks. Each box includes 7-10 snacks from a variety of vegan companies. They also try to be Eco-friendly with their packaging, which I absolutely love. They ship worldwide, including APO which makes life a heck of a lot easier for me way out here. Shipping to the US (APO) is free, Eight dollars to Canada and Fifteen to anywhere else. I'll make a whole new post about it when my June snack box arrives.

I also subscribed to EcoVeganGal on youtube and she also has a website by the same name. Watching her videos have really helped me see in what direction I'd like to go with my diet and lifestyle changes. She talks about her journey with becoming vegan and also helps by suggesting a variety of foods and products you can use to be a little more conscience in life.

In the picture below I show you a couple of things I've bought recently in my quest for change.
We all know that deodorant contains aluminum, which many people believe can be toxic for your body. So my answer to this potential problem? By an all natural deodorant! I'm not going to lie. I was scared at first about how "stinky" I might get, but this deodorant by North Coast Organics is magic. Its all natural and smells amazing! It's called Death By Lavender, isn't that cute? The ingredients include Organic Coconut oil, Organic Cornstarch, Baking Soda, and Organic Proprietary Blend of Essential Oils. And best of all they believe in only making cruelty free, certified organic, 100% vegan!! They also threw in this awesome chap stick called LSQ, named after Lincoln Square in Chicago where the company is based. This chap stick also has great ingredients:  Avocado Oil, Hemp Oil, Coconut Oil, Carnauba Wax, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Proprietary Blend of Essential Oils. I am in love with it. For some reason my lips have been chapped and this has saved them over night. You can find more wonderful information about them here. You should really check them out if only to get amazing products with a heart.
Next we have this Avalon Organics lotion in Lavender. This company also uses Certified Organic ingredients and do without Synthetic Fragrances, Phthalates,
Harsh Sulfates or Parabens. And also get a hold of this:

"Our company is committed to reducing our ecological footprint to help preserve the planet, now and for future generations. Recognizing the need to be good stewards of all natural resources, we are dedicated to reducing, reusing and recycling across all areas of our business and we continuously look for new ways to help protect our planet, from the field to the factory to the shelf.

Packaging Choices. We use environmentally friendly packaging and have a corporate initiative to continually seek out opportunities to further our sustainability and reduce our environmental impact. All of our packaging is recyclable and we deliberately seek out only containers made from materials that are readily accepted by most curbside recycling programs. A majority of our plastic bottles are made from 100% post consumer resin and we strive to maximize the use of post consumer material in all of our containers. This creates a second use for millions of plastic bottles annually that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Our unit cartons are made with 80% post consumer material and the paperboard is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, assuring that only responsibly sourced virgin and recycled fiber is used in its creation.

Please help us reduce landfill space and save precious resources by recycling all of your household packaging whenever possible. Together we can create a more sustainable future.

Carbon Footprint. We incessantly look for new ways to reduce our environmental impact. Whenever possible, we source packaging components and ingredients locally to reduce the carbon cost of transportation. Simple choices, like sourcing our containers from suppliers near our California manufacturing facility (rather than from Asia as so many personal care manufacturers do) can make a great difference in reducing carbon emissions.

We strive to run our business in a manner that promotes long-term solutions to environmental problems, maintains the integrity of natural ecosystems, and conserves the quality of air, water, and soil for our children's children."
So far this has been an amazing replacement to my other lotions which were barely getting the job done. Not only does this lotion smell amazing but it has also made my skin and especially scaly elbows feel more nourished and smooth.

And to continue my love for Lavender I give you LAVENDER OIL! I use this mostly as perfume with the added convenience of its calming properties. I first came across this during one of my yoga classes  when our teacher passed around this tiny bottle. I was skeptical but definitely felt a lot more relaxed earlier on in my practice. Not only that but I didn't come out smellig sweaty and my husband loves it so BAM! Bonus!
