Gangnam And Lanterns

As some of you might know Buddha is having a birthday soon! In celebration the was a Lightning/Lotus lantern festival (April 26th) in Jogye- sa. Before this we when on a mini adventure to Gangnam for Gundams and Lush goodies. While in Gangnam we visited Bongeunsa Temple.

This temple is 1,200 years old! Located in the middle of a city, it's kind of an escape.

Beautifully tiled ceiling

People praying to the largest statue of Buddha.

After a eighteen stop subway ride we made it to Jogye-sa around seven pm. Unluckily enough it was hard to find lanterns of our own. I would have really liked to have a physical reminder of the parade. I had never before been to a parade so I was more excited than a kid in a candy factory, but before it started we had to feast. Once we finally went out again the streets we swarmed with people. Locals and foreigners filled the streets! It was nice to see people from back west.

Monks carrying some of the floats.

I particularly like this one because it's like a child on a baby dragon.

And as you can see this float was my favorite.
